Dallas “Lightovation” Unveils Lighting Themes for 2017
International Decorative Lighting Show Wows with Fixtures from Traditional to Modern
Twice a year in January and June, thousands from around the world flock to the Dallas Market Center for “LIGHTOVATION” where lighting manufacturers reveal their latest indoor and outdoor residential products to potential buyers such as 1800lighting.com. What’s shown there is a bellwether of the latest and greatest design themes that will soon be seen in homes and commercial spaces.
Textured Surfaces
Textured finishes were a hit at the LIGHTOVATION tradeshow, particularly for those fixtures that had a nod to Farmhouse style. For example, the new two-tier, 24-light Norridge chandelier by Feiss has a heavily weathered texture with the brand’s new Distressed Fenceboard finish on its main body and the new Distressed White finish on its turned candle tubes. A Weathered Iron chain adds even more texture to the chandelier’s timeworn look.
No Longer Your Mother’s Chandelier
Some manufacturers offered wholly updated versions of traditional chandelier forms. One was Tech Lighting, known for its premium, modern offerings, which introduced “deconstructed” chandeliers as with its Sedona Triple, where three sets of four glass orbs are suspended from a branchlike central hub via contrasting textured, cloth covered cords. Its fully dimmable vintage, tubular style LED bulbs are seen through artisan-crafted glass.
Statement Pieces
As consumers understand more about the importance of lighting to overall home design, and marketplace demand grows for large-scale lighting fixtures, manufacturers at LIGHTOVATION showcased statement pieces that can define a grand room’s décor. The modern Photon 48 by LBL Lighting—at 31.8” high and 48” in diameter—is one example with its fun and playful starburst silhouette while still being tailored and elegant. It has solid, acrylic arms which are squarely faceted to ensure an even glow from its integrated LED light source shining from the core.
Warm and Dark Tones
Warm, gold tones paired with black materials or finishes were prevalent at the show. This Towner from Sea Gull Lighting brings a retro design to the traditional, circular chandelier silhouette. Its Black, conical pharmacy shades with a choice of the Satin Bronze finish creates an on-trend, mid-century vibe. Towner is also ENERGY STAR-qualified.
Lighting is not only functional. By installing some of the newest styles, it’s the easiest way to elevate a space.
PRO TIP: New lighting can also be an energy saver; much of today’s decorative light fixtures leverage LED and ENERGY STAR technology.
