Style Guide: Rustic Charm
There is no tiptoeing around this quintessential rustic abode! Solid construction and harmonious design come together like an enchanting journey into the woods, one elegant step at a time.
Earthy hues pair well with chiseled stone and intricate woodwork. An authentic balance is created with an abundance of texture, natural light and smart decorative combinations.
Lighting Professional, Malka Frost pulled together her client’s vision of “rustic with a bit of sparkle thrown in,” beautifully.
The challenge was to keep true to the rustic roots while adding a few dazzling highlights that flow naturally into this purposeful design scheme.

With liberal rustic undertones and riveting illumination, every element is integral to the mix and orchestrated with precision for a visual composition that is definitive and uncluttered.
The wall lanterns at the home’s entrance charismatically add a feminine flair to the bold linear architecture.

Heavy wrought iron orbs contain crystal chandeliers that exhibit a magnificent play of light and shadow off the linen painted ceiling in the foyer. Add three-foot torch wall sconces for an award-winning design featured in a national lighting magazine.
A well-chosen transitional ceiling pendant and wall sconces brilliantly complement the window design in the family room.

“I achieved that perfect balance of adding to the room without taking away from the gorgeous window, which is the focal point of the room,” Frost says.
There was only one goal when it came to the dinette: rustic, rustic, rustic.
With the treasured appeal of a fabulous flea market find, the inverted chandelier combines ropes and wrought iron rings for a truly memorable ensemble aptly finished with nostalgic light sources.

Natural light from the windows above brings out the beauty in the amber glass. Once illuminated, these lights present “a beautiful haphazard pattern that makes the walls look like they are underwater,” Frost says.

“As a lighting designer I love to do the unexpected and bringing outdoor fixtures inside is the perfect example of that,” she adds.
The master bathroom exudes an earthy and spa-like feel. Drawing the eye up to a meticulously crafted domed wood ceiling, Frost opted for a long, narrow crystal chandelier.

The branch-like design mimics the earthiness of the aged wood floors. The overall sensation of this room is whimsical and luxurious.
The formal dining room and living room also called for a bit of sparkle. The laser cut leaves and Swarovski colored crystal ELEMENTS did not disappoint! Two 28-inch fixtures over the dining table and a 25-inch crystal chandelier in the living room are oversized, enhancing the room with a look that is opulent, yet completely rustic in attitude.
