can the product be hung either direction (with the bulb directing down)?

what is the protrusion of the shade from the wall?
BEST ANSWER: The lighting fixture is no more than 9 1/4 inches out from the wall. Mine is above a wall mounted bath vanity cabinet and the lighting is on the mirror not behind it. I am very happy is choose this lamp. It adds to the relaxed vibe in my house.
